Located in Fawkner Drive Benalla the Benalla Rural City offices are open 8.30am - 5pm Monday to Friday.

Benalla Rural City township is surrounded by the hamlets of Baddaginnie, Devenish, Goorambat, Molyullah, Swanpool, Tatong, Thoona, Warrenbayne and Winton.   In June 2003, the estimated resident population of the Rural City was 14,049 people with Benalla having an estimated resident population of approximately 9,170.

The Rural City enjoys remarkable weather with good average rainfall.  Benalla has an excellent water supply that is both clean and consistent.

The weather we enjoy makes Benalla ideal for outdoor recreational pursuits. Hence, Benalla Rural City is home to the Gliding Club of Victoria and Winton Motor Raceway as well as enjoys some beautiful parklands and outdoor sporting facilities.

Benalla is located approximately 167 kilometres North East of Melbourne making it accessible by road along the Hume Freeway or rail in about two hours. The Eastern suburbs of Melbourne and the Yarra Valley are also accessible in approximately two hours via the Midland and Melba Highways. The Midland Highway connects Benalla to Shepparton and Bendigo in the West. From Benalla, there are transport links to Sydney along the Hume Freeway, or by rail, and to Queensland via the inland route via Tocumwal and the Newell Highway.

Visitor Information Centre

Visitor Information Centre

The Benalla Visitor Centre is situated on the east bank of Lake Benalla, just across the bridge from the Regional Art Gallery.

The bridge was constructed under the supervision of Sir John Monash. Adjacent to the Centre is the Gaudi inspired Ceramic Mural.

The Centre is staffed by local volunteers who know the locality.

A comprehensive range of local and regional brochures is available to help visitors make the most of their visit to the area.

Help with local accommodation is also available.
