Main Street Markets Bring Festive Energy to Benalla

The Benalla town centre came alive in December with the Main Street Markets, delivered as part of the Shop Benalla First Christmas campaign by the Benalla Business Network (BBN) in partnership with Benalla Rural City Council (BRCC).

Held across Friday 12 and Saturday 13 December, the markets showcased the strength of Benalla’s local business community, with more than 20 stallholders participating each day. Footpath trading, business specials, and pop-up stalls encouraged people to explore the main street, while live music, buskers, and kids’ activities created a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere for families and visitors.

The markets were designed to do more than entertain — they aimed to increase foot traffic, encourage local spending, and support small businesses during the busy Christmas period. Many businesses took the opportunity to engage with new customers, collaborate with neighbouring traders, and be part of a broader town-wide activation.

Alongside the markets, the Shop Benalla First Christmas campaign gave customers the chance to go in the draw for a share of $1,000 in Benalla Business Dollars with any local purchase throughout December, reinforcing the importance of keeping spending within the local economy.

BBN would like to thank the local businesses, stallholders, performers, volunteers, and partners who contributed to the success of the markets. From planning and coordination through to setup and pack-down, the events were a true community effort.

The Main Street Markets highlighted what’s possible when local businesses, council, and the community work together — creating energy in the town centre and supporting Benalla businesses at an important time of year.
